Backend Engineer, AI

About the Role

We’re seeking an exceptional Backend Engineer with AI/ML expertise to build intelligent systems that optimize notification delivery and user engagement. You’ll work on cutting-edge problems involving LLMs, recommendation systems, and real-time prediction models that process millions of events daily.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement AI-powered notification routing and optimization systems
• Build and deploy machine learning models for user engagement prediction
• Integrate LLMs for intelligent notification content generation and personalization
• Develop real-time inference pipelines handling millions of predictions per second
• Work with large-scale data processing systems (streaming and batch)
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to identify AI opportunities
• Monitor and optimize model performance in production
• Research and implement state-of-the-art ML techniques

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with 2+ years in AI/ML
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Experience deploying and scaling ML models in production
• Deep understanding of real-time systems and distributed computing
• Proficiency with data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of databases, caching, and message queues
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Excellent problem-solving and system design skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with LLMs and prompt engineering (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
• Background in recommendation systems or personalization engines
• Knowledge of reinforcement learning or multi-armed bandit algorithms
• Experience with real-time feature stores (Feast, Tecton)
• Publications or contributions to ML open-source projects
• PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related field
